Food for Thought
It is said that a people who values its heritage and honors its ancestors better understands its roots and its sense of place in history; equipping it with the sense of purpose and inspiration needed to make a difference in the world today and in the future.
Recommendations for Poulsbo Cemetery Improvements
In 2016 the Poulsbo City Council adopted as one of its working goals for 2017-2018 the “restoration and refurbishing of the Poulsbo Community Cemetery.”
During 2016 and 2017 a Council special committee, made up of Council Members, Department of Public Works staff and community volunteers, implemented a series of improvements in the cemetery. The committee presented its 2016-2017 report to the Council Public Works Committee on August 23. The committee report describes what cemetery improvements have been accomplished this past year.
Importantly, the report also provides a new vision for our community cemetery, and what must be done if that vision is to be accomplished.
The Need for Your Participation
The Friends Poulsbo Cemetery sees itself as a discussion group. We create discussion papers to build consensus on issues and recommendations. What we need now is a network of community representatives to read, respond and help us build consensus on what is best for the community, the City of Poulsbo and the cemetery.
Our discussions for the next year will be centered around (A) drafting a “Master Plan” to improve the Poulsbo Cemetery and (B) drafting the bylaws and articles of incorporation for a non-profit, 501(C) 3, free standing Friends of Poulsbo Cemetery Association. These two goals to be accomplished by June 1, 2018.
